At r/needmods we have 3 post types that we encourage.
Asking For Mods
Asking for mods is very simple and it's been what r/needmods is about from the beginning. When making your post be sure you have the correct flair and use a link post. The picture next to this text shows an example. You will get a pinned comment from a mod letting you know your post has been approved.

Requesting mod of any SFW or NSFW subreddit
Not much to say for this one. You still have to use the link option. Make sure you have the correct flair and you link your username or reddit.com.
Suggesting a subreddit to be requested in r/redditrequest
As a user who likes to collect subreddits and tries to make them active, I think this is a great idea to allow users who want to give light to a subreddit and have others request a subreddit that you want to become active but you don't have time yourself or are in your cooldown. The subreddit you post about must be made through a link post. The subreddit you post about must be considered "abandoned" or banned in order to post about it. If the sub is marked NSFW then you must mark your post as NSFW. Feedback is welcome from both users and reddit mods/admins. You will see a good example of a post above. As of now, the 2 mods haven't posted for 60 days or more. This sub is considered "abandoned" therefore someone can request it in r/redditrequest. The sub is not marked as NSFW so this post doesn't need to be marked as NSFW.
